How has your career led you to establishing Betterteem? What inspired you to start the company? 

Before starting Betterteam, I spent over 15 years in HR, focusing on areas like employee retention and engagement. These were key metrics, but they were incredibly difficult to improve. I often found myself juggling multiple systems just to gather the data I needed, and even then, I couldn’t gain clear, actionable insights. It was frustrating, especially when my performance—and even my job security—depended on solving these challenges.

That experience made me realize the need for a solution. What if there was a system that could integrate all these platforms and provide a clear summary to guide decision-making? At the time, nothing like that existed. So, I took a leap—I started learning about technology, software development, and eventually artificial intelligence. That journey not only gave me the tools I needed but also inspired me to create Betterteam, a platform designed to simplify HR processes, enhance decision-making, and solve the very challenges I faced throughout my career.


What is Betterteem all about? Could you elaborate on the technologies and algorithms that power your predictive analytics?

Betterteem is a business intelligence platform powered by AI that specializes in predictive analytics. We help companies analyze massive amounts of employee experience data to identify trends in performance and retention, ultimately pinpointing which employees may be at risk of leaving.

Replacing an employee can cost up to 72% of their annual salary, and when companies lose hundreds of employees annually, the financial impact is enormous. Betterteem helps mitigate this by providing actionable insights to address retention issues proactively.

Our platform integrates with existing systems like payroll, HR, and productivity tools to gather historical data. Using advanced algorithms, we sanitize, normalize, and analyze this data to uncover meaningful patterns. These insights enable organizations to make smarter, data-driven decisions that improve retention and save costs.

How do you differentiate yourself from competitors in the employee experience analytics space?

I always emphasize that Betterteem isn’t just an employee experience analytics platform or an HR tech tool. We’ve evolved into a business intelligence platform, and that distinction is critical. We go beyond simply providing graphs or trends—we digest your data, predict future outcomes, and evaluate whether your planned actions to address those predictions will drive tangible business results.

What sets us apart is our ability to predict outcomes, process massive amounts of data almost instantly, and deliver insights that combine internal, comparative, and public data. For example, many companies rely on consulting firms to benchmark compensation. With Betterteem, we not only provide benchmarks based on industry peers but also factor in public data, like inflation rates from sources such as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. This comprehensive approach—integrating internal, external, private, and public data—gives our clients insights that are more accurate and actionable, making us uniquely positioned in the market.

Can you share a success story where your platform significantly improved employee retention or engagement for a client?

One of our standout stories is with an insurance company that was losing a significant number of financial advisors to competitors. The issue was critical because these advisors took client relationships—and millions of dollars in wealth under management—with them when they left.

Using our platform, we helped the company analyze key factors like performance, employee experience trends, and skills that impacted job satisfaction and productivity. This allowed them to identify at-risk advisors and take proactive steps to retain them. For those they couldn’t retain, they transitioned accounts to other strong performers, minimizing losses.

In just eight months, they improved employee retention by 28% and saved over $380 million in wealth under management that would have otherwise been lost to competitors. It’s a great example of how Betterteem delivers real, measurable value.

What are your plans for future development and innovation, such as incorporating new AI features or expanding to other HR domains?

Our plans focus on leveraging the wealth of employee data we already have—sentiments, demographics, performance metrics, and more. First, we're integrating generative AI, enabling clients to interact with the Betterteem ecosystem through natural language for instant insights. We're also introducing flexible benefits, allowing companies to offer personalized packages tailored to different employee groups, like Gen Z or Boomers, based on their specific needs and motivations. Finally, we’re exploring fintech features, using payroll and employment data to provide solutions like financial wellness programs or salary advances. These innovations aim to make Betterteem a comprehensive business intelligence platform that delivers real value to our clients.

How was your experience with IGNITE? How does it feel to be part of the top 3 startups of Startup World Cup x Wildfire 2024 Pitch Competition?

To be honest, I didn't expect much going into IGNITE. My goal was simply to share what we’re doing and hopefully get some attention. But after the event, the attention we received exceeded all expectations. We gained interest from potential clients and investors, which was incredible. In fact, one of the clients we closed was a direct result of the opportunities provided by IGNITE. The experience was fantastic, not just for me, but for my teams in Pangasinan and for the teammates who attended the event.

As for being in the top three—honestly, I’m still at a loss for words. The experience was beyond exciting. Not only did we have the chance to showcase our work, but we also got to travel, with all expenses covered—accommodation, food, everything. It was a great opportunity to connect with people from outside the Philippines as well. Excitement and fulfillment don't even begin to describe how I feel. It was such a rewarding experience, both personally and for the business as a whole. I can honestly say that IGNITE has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for us.
